PII cover
ABC Insurance provides professional indemnity insurance cover from $2 million for law practices operating in NSW.
The renewal cycle for PI insurance for 2025-2026 has commenced.
For practising certificate purposes, ABC is awaiting approval from the Attorney General of NSW. Given the practising certificate cycle commenced on 1 April 2025, we assume that a decision in respect of approval of ABC’s policy is imminent.
We are aware that the Attorney General of NSW has obtained independent advice confirming that ABC’s PI insurance policy meets the objective standards in s 210(1) of the Legal Profession Uniform Law, including the minimum standards.
Our policy is broader in coverage (with enhanced cover and benefits) and cost-effective.

Run-off cover

Internal conveyancing and estate planning
We will provide you with cover against civil liability claims resulting from legal services being provided to a principal or employee in connection with personal conveyancing or personal estate planning advice provided in the usual course of your law practice’s business whether or not a fee is charged. We will pay up to the limit of indemnity provided under your policy (subject to the policy terms and conditions).
Additional cover over $2 million
ABC Insurance offers additional PII cover (also known as top-up or increased limits) for law practices across Australia.
Additional cover is available from $500,000 up to $3 million, in excess of your primary $2 million cover, for a total cover of up to $5 million.
Higher additional cover limits may also be available.
Why should I consider additional cover?
- Your law practice may undertake work with a significantly higher dollar value than the primary $2 million indemnity limit.
- Some of your clients may insist on you having a higher limit of professional indemnity insurance cover.
- Even if you are part of a Professional Standards Scheme to limit your liability, there is still risk that the total costs of defending a claim made against you may exceed the scheme limit and the primary $2 million PII limit.
